Ontario Press Media

Accessibility Policy & Multi-Year Plan (AODA)

Commitment to accessible, inclusive digital journalism under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and WCAG 2.1 AA.

1. Statement of Commitment

Ontario Press Media Inc. is dedicated to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity, and we are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA, 2005) and Ontario Regulation 191/11 (Integrated Accessibility Standards).

2. Digital Standards & WCAG 2.1 AA Compliance

All digital products, web themes, interactive tools, and published articles under the Ontario Press Media umbrella are architected to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards:

  • Keyboard Navigability: All navigation menus, dropdowns, interactive briefs, and back-to-top buttons are fully operable without a mouse.
  • Screen Reader Accessibility: Semantic HTML5 markup, ARIA live regions, explicit button labels, and high-fidelity text alternatives (alt tags) for all news imagery.
  • High Contrast & Typographic Clarity: Text elements maintain contrast ratios well exceeding 4.5:1, and interfaces support scalable typography without layout distortion.
  • Reduced Motion: Respect for operating system prefers-reduced-motion settings across all carousels, transitions, and interactive animations.
